Ultrasound Therapy

ULTRASOUND CAN BE USED TO TREAT

• Strained and torn muscles

• Sprained and torn ligaments

• Inflamed tendons and sheaths

• Inflamed and damaged joint capsules

• Lacerations and soft tissue trauma

• Scar tissue

• Fasciitis

WHAT IS ULTRASOUND THERAPY AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

High frequency sound waves are transmitted from the head of the Ultrasound Machine into the body. The depth of penetration of the waves can be altered to work on a specific area.

The high frequency waves creates a vibration in tissue cells. This stimulates blood flow, increases fluid and gaseous interchange in cells, loosens scar tissue and adhesions, creates heat and may reduce pain. All of this can help to speed up the body’s natural healing processes. It can be thought of as a micro massage

HOW IS THE TREATMENT CARRIED OUT?

A gel is placed on the skin to give good contact between the head of the ultrasound machine and the skin.

The head of the machine is moved around the area to be treated. The length of treatment varies with the condition being treated and may require more than one session.

WHAT WILL I FEEL?

Usually there is no sensation with the treatment but you may feel a light vibration and warming of the area.
